Telecare in Scotland Telecare: The Process, Learnings and Results -

Human Bytes Webinar

Our Business Relationship Manager, David Brown, who was recently recognised with a Digital Leader Award for his outstanding achievements, was asked to present at a Human Bytes Webinar on 22nd April. The subject was Telecare in Scotland - The Process, Learnings and Results.

The presentation set out Scotland’s transition from analogue to digital telecare in response to the national switch‑off of analogue networks by 2027, highlighting telecare’s critical role in supporting around 140,000 citizens and delivering significant public value.

It highlighted that through the Digital Telecare Programme, Scotland is progressing a coordinated “Once for Scotland” approach, supporting service providers with leadership, shared platforms, data standards, and technical assurance to enable a safe, resilient and future‑proofed digital service.

David also emphasised how cloud technologies, the Shared ARC Platform, and the Telecare Information Framework (TIF) are enabling innovation, better use of data, and a shift from reactive to proactive, preventative care.

April - Telecare Service Review: Scotland in Transition

Telecare in Scotland: Scotland in Transition

Scotland’s telecare services are nearing a pivotal moment. With the PSTN switch‑off set for 31 January 2027, the March 2026 National Telecare Service Review provides the clearest picture yet of where we are, how far we’ve come, and what still needs attention.

The review captures the true scale of telecare in Scotland, supporting over 137,000 people, handling around six million calls a year, and now operating predominantly on digital, cloud‑based platforms.

It highlights strong progress in digital migration, growing resilience through shared Alarm Receiving Centres, and the opportunities digital telecare creates for better data, smarter services and more person‑centred support.

At the same time, it sets out the continuing challenges, particularly for housing and grouped schemes, and what the next phase of optimisation will require.

April Housing Blog: What a Journey (and what we learned along the way)

Digital telecare migration rarely follows a straight line, especially when services are there to keep people safe at home. Across housing, providers are navigating complex change, and the most valuable insights are coming on the journey

Castlehill Housing Association recently shared practical lessons from completing their migration, from preparing digital lines early and testing equipment in standalone mode, to investing in staff training and engaging residents from the outset.

These insights helped Castlehill, alongside Link Group, become the first housing providers to achieve full recognition across all five milestones of the Housing Implementation Award Scheme.

Their experience shows the value of planning, partnership, and learning from peers. With the right support, digital migration is not just achievable, it’s a positive step forward for residents and services alike.

Workforce Development Opportunity for Local Authorities

PDA in Technology‑Enabled Care - Applications now open.

Local authorities are invited to encourage staff to apply for the Professional Development Award (PDA) in Technology‑Enabled Care (TEC), starting September 2026.

This SCQF Level 7 qualification, delivered fully online by UHI Perth College and funded by Scottish Government and COSLA, supports the local government workforce to build the practical knowledge and skills needed to design, commission and deliver technology‑enabled and preventative care services.

The PDA is particularly relevant for staff working across social care, housing, commissioning, service redesign, digital transformation and integrated teams, helping to strengthen local capability in:

  • Supporting people to live independently for longer
  • Embedding digital and technology‑enabled care within service models
  • Responding to workforce and capacity pressures
  • Delivering national priorities linked to Digital Health and Care and prevention agendas

Funded places are available, and completion contributes to Continued Professional Development (CPD), supporting workforce development and career progression.

Show and Tell: East Dunbartonshire Council, Decommissioning Warden Call to DAU's

At the March TSP meeting, members heard from James Gray of East Dunbartonshire Council, who shared insights from their recent move away from a traditional warden call system to dispersed alarm units.

The presentation offered a practical perspective on managing change and highlighted key considerations from the Council’s experience.

The session sparked strong interest and led to a lively and wide‑ranging discussion, with many attendees reflecting on how the learning might apply in their own local contexts.

A recording of the presentation is now available to stream, offering a useful opportunity to revisit the discussion or catch up if you were unable to attend.

Call For Academic Proposals: Evaluation of Evondos Medication Dispensing Robot in Scottish Care Services

The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) has launched a call for academic proposals to independently evaluate the Evondos E300 Medication Dispensing Robot (MDR), to improve medication adherence and streamline care in Scottish health and social care services.

The evaluation aims to determine the MDR's effectiveness in enhancing medication routines, freeing up resources, and improving outcomes for individuals, as well as exploring how the valuable data generated can support future care planning and integration with the national Telecare Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).

With up to £40,000 in funding available, DHI seeks responses from Scottish Higher Education Institutions with experience in service evaluation, cost benefit analysis, and a solid grasp of Scotland’s health and social care landscape.

Proposals should outline methodologies, team expertise, and provide a clear approach to delivering on the project’s objectives, with submissions due by 6th May 2026.
